When I first started my journey with my feathered friend, I was pretty clueless about bird nutrition . So I thought, Maybe my bird can just eat seeds all day, right? Well, was I wrong! 🤦🏻♀️ It turns out, I was making a big mistake by not paying attention to what my feathery friends were eating. But luckily It did not take me long enough to figure out that my feathered friends needed more than seeds to survive. That’s when I made the decision and research about it at that point, and I’m really glad that I did!

I have observed a list of nutrients that I found during my research, which I follow for my birds as well. Here is a quick breakdown of the nutrients and their sources that I follow, and apparently it is essential for your pet bird’s daily diet.
Proteins
Proteins are very good for muscle development and repair. You can get your pet Pellets, Seeds, Legumes, Nuts which are the main source of proteins. You can also get you pet friend Hard-boiled or scrambled eggs, Live or dried insects to add heavy protein in diet.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates provide energy for daily activities. It is important that your bird is active and energetic. Gains such as rice, oats, wheat, barley, and millet are good sources of carbohydrates. In general, for your pet bird’s daily diet, the percentage of carbohydrates to have up to 40-60%.
Fats
Fats are needed for maintaining healthy feathers and providing concentrated energy. Certain seeds and nuts contain a higher volume of fats. Seeds like Sunflower Seeds, Safflower Seeds, Niger Seeds, and Pumpkin Seeds contain a good amount of fats. If you add this to your feather friend diet it could really help to maintain a healthy and energetic energy.
Vitamins
Carrots, pumpkin, and broccoli, types of vegetables, have a good amount of vitamin A, which is good for birds’ vision. Similarly, egg yolk and fish contain vitamin D, which helps birds with calcium absorption. Another very important vitamin for growing a strong immune system is vitamin E. Sweet potatoes and fruits like mango and kiwi are good sources of vitamin E.
Minerals
There are many minerals you should add to your bird’s diet plant to keep them healthy. For example, Calcium helps grow stronger bones and beaks & iron is essential for blood health. Kale, Spinach, and Swiss chard has a good potion of calcium & other required minerals. For additional calcium, cuttlebone and mineral blocks are a great source too.
Clean Water
Water is super important for your pet birds. so you need to make sure that they always have fresh, clean water to drink and splash around in. Also you have to keep change their water often to keep it clean and also make sure they stay hydrated, especially when it’s really hot outside.
